Santo Andre Avelino is a non-profit Daycare Centre for the Elderly in Primrose that has been operational since September 2018.
Eight volunteers currently run it and we use Luso Africa’s Cultural and Sports Club premises (hall), every Wednesday.
We provide an average of eighty to ninety people with a three-course meal, including juice and wine.
Ages range from sixty to 92 years. Activities include exercise classes, playing games, dancing, arts & crafts, a church service once a month, special talks relating to health issues and performances by guest singers/artists.
We aim to encourage social interaction, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation, by providing some form of emotional, cognitive and physical stimulation/support.
To be able to continue our work, we are dependent on sponsorships and people’s kindness. Their support is key to helping the community and our cause.
Every donation, support or small act of kindness is a major step towards making a difference, in the lives of these elders, often bringing a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day!
